Capitec Cash Send Reversal: Stop the Payout and Recover Your Cash

Capitec has no self-service Send Cash cancel button. If it is still uncollected, call 0860 10 20 43 now with your ID number and transaction reference and ask Capitec to place the payout on hold.

Quick answer: what to do next

Cash still available: call 0860 10 20 43 and request a hold, then collect it yourself with the reference, secret code and required identification.
Status unclear or collection fails: check the app history and call Capitec with the reference. Do not create a duplicate payment or share the secret code widely.
Already collected: the hold process is too late. Ask the recipient to return the money; report suspected fraud to Capitec and SAPS.

How to stop and recover an uncollected Send Cash

  1. 1

    Find the transaction reference

Open your Capitec transaction history and note the Send Cash reference, amount, date and status. Keep the secret code private.

  2. 2

    Call Capitec on 0860 10 20 43

Give Capitec the reference and the sender’s correct identity number. Ask for the transaction to be put on hold because it went to the wrong person.

  3. 3

Confirm whether only you may collect

Capitec’s terms say the bank will endeavour to prevent payment to anyone other than the sender after this instruction. A hold is not the same as a guaranteed reversal, so confirm the status before travelling.

  4. 4

    Collect the money yourself

Use the reference, secret code and any identification required by the Capitec ATM or participating retailer. Retailers can verify details such as your name, cellphone number or ID.

The official wording is that Capitec will “endeavour” to stop anyone other than the sender collecting. Call immediately; the bank cannot place a useful hold after payout.

If the Send Cash failed or the SMS is missing

  • Check the app history first. A network or app interruption can hide the confirmation even though the transaction exists.
  • Debited, but no SMS: if the payment is active, resend the reference and secret code to the intended recipient through a secure channel.
  • Reference or status missing: call 0860 10 20 43 with the date, amount and sender details. Do not send the money again until Capitec confirms the first status.
  • ATM or retailer will not pay: confirm the details and identification required, then call Capitec while the payment is still uncollected.

The automatic 30-day return

If nobody collects the Send Cash, Capitec says the money is returned to the sending account automatically after 30 days. The recipient can still collect during that window unless Capitec has successfully restricted the payout, so waiting is slower and riskier than calling.

The send amount returns; the fee does not

Capitec's terms say Send Cash transaction fees are non-refundable. If the amount has not returned after the 30-day period, call Client Care with the reference.

If the money was already collected

Once paid out, Capitec can no longer restrict who collects that Send Cash. Your next step depends on what happened:

  • Wrong person: contact them and ask for the money back. Capitec cannot guarantee recovery.
  • Scam or fraud: call 0860 10 20 43 immediately, preserve the transaction and message evidence, and open a SAPS case.

About the claimed “R160 reversal fee”

Capitec's official June 2026 pricing guide does not list an R160 Send Cash reversal fee. Never pay a social-media account, WhatsApp “agent” or website to release or reverse the cash, and never give anyone both the transaction reference and secret code. Verify any charge through Capitec's official number: 0860 10 20 43.

Capitec Send Cash fees

The current fee guide, effective 4 June 2026, charges R10 per R1,000 band:

Amount sentSend fee
R40 – R1,000R10
R1,010 – R2,000R20
R2,010 – R3,000R30

Capitec's terms state that transaction fees are non-refundable.

Avoid a repeat

  • Check the full cellphone number before confirming.
  • Keep the reference and secret code until collection is confirmed.
  • Share the secret code only with the intended recipient through a secure channel.
