Standard Bank Instant Money Reversal: App, USSD and SPAR

You can cancel an Instant Money voucher only while its full value remains. Open Manage vouchers in the same channel used to send it—the app, Online Banking or Cellphone Banking—and confirm with the 4-digit collection PIN.

Quick answer: choose the voucher status

Full value remains: cancel under Manage vouchers in the sending channel. The amount returns, but the original send fee does not.
Voucher missing, PIN blocked or ATM failed: use the correct self-service code below or call 0860 466 639 before sending another voucher.
Partly or fully used: self-service cancellation is unavailable because the full value no longer remains. Call Standard Bank; recovery after payout is not guaranteed.

Cancel in the App, Online Banking or Cellphone Banking

  1. 1

Use the same channel that created the voucher

Sign in to the Standard Bank App or Online Banking, or dial *120*2345# for Standard Bank Cellphone Banking.

  2. 2

    Open Manage vouchers

Go to the Instant Money area and choose Manage vouchers. Menu wording may vary slightly, but Standard Bank lists voucher management in all three bank channels.

  3. 3

    Select the full-value voucher

Check the recipient number and amount. Cancellation is only available while the full voucher value remains.

  4. 4

Confirm with the 4-digit collection PIN

Complete the cancellation and keep the confirmation. The voucher amount returns, but the original send fee is not refunded.

Standard Bank Cellphone Banking

*120*2345#

Use this bank channel's Manage vouchers option when the voucher was sent through Cellphone Banking.

Instant Money Wallet self-service

*120*212#

Use this to resend the voucher, reset the PIN or check status. It is not the bank's Cellphone Banking cancellation channel.

Voucher created at SPAR or PEP?

  • SPAR: return with your South African ID and the original till slip to cancel a full-value voucher.
  • Lost SPAR slip: call 0860 466 639 to obtain the voucher reference and confirm what the store requires.
  • PEP: PEP is an issuing partner, but Standard Bank's public cancellation FAQ gives the in-store steps specifically for SPAR. Call 0860 466 639 for the correct PEP-issued process.

If the voucher or payout fails

  • Recipient got no SMS: dial *120*212# and use the resend option, or call 0860 466 639.
  • Forgotten or blocked PIN: reset it in the original sending channel, through *120*212#, or with Instant Money support.
  • Wrong cellphone number: cancel the full-value voucher and issue a new one. The original send fee is still not refunded.
  • ATM did not dispense cash: record the ATM location or number and call 0860 466 639 immediately; do not assume the voucher is still available.
  • Voucher missing from Manage vouchers: check its status before concluding it was collected. A partial balance or channel mismatch can also block cancellation.

Instant Money fees and refunds

Standard Bank's 2026 pricing guide lists these bank-channel and Instant Money Wallet fees. Its terms say service fees are not refundable.

Vouchers last three years—not 30 days

Standard Bank says Instant Money vouchers are valid for three years. There is no automatic refund after 30 days. If you no longer need a full-value voucher, cancel it; if you prefer, the sender may also collect it using the voucher details and PIN.

If the voucher was already redeemed

A redeemed voucher cannot be cancelled under Manage vouchers:

  • Wrong recipient: ask them to return the money. Standard Bank cannot guarantee recovery after collection.
  • Fraud: call Instant Money support on 0860 466 639 and Standard Bank Fraud on 0800 222 050, preserve the evidence and open a SAPS case.

How the other services differ

  • FNB eWallet: request a reversal within 72 hours; every attempt has a fee. See the FNB eWallet reversal guide.
  • Absa CashSend: manage an unredeemed payment in Online Banking or cancel it in ChatWallet. See the Absa CashSend guide.
  • Capitec Send Cash: no self-service cancel button; call to ask for a hold, then collect it yourself. See the Capitec Send Cash guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can you reverse Standard Bank Instant Money?+
You can cancel a voucher only while its full value remains. Use Manage vouchers in the same Standard Bank channel used to send it: the Banking App, Online Banking or Cellphone Banking. You need the 4-digit collection PIN.
Can I cancel an Instant Money voucher with USSD?+
Yes, if you sent it through Standard Bank Cellphone Banking: dial *120*2345# and use Manage vouchers. Do not confuse this with *120*212#, which is the separate Instant Money Wallet self-service code for resending a voucher, resetting a PIN and checking status.
How do I cancel an Instant Money voucher created at SPAR?+
Return to SPAR with your South African ID and original till slip. If the slip is lost, call 0860 466 639 to obtain the reference and ask what the store needs. For a PEP-issued voucher, call that number rather than assuming the SPAR process is identical.
Do I get the Instant Money send fee back?+
No. Standard Bank’s terms say fees paid for the service are not refundable. The remaining voucher amount can be returned after cancellation, but the original R10, R20 or R30 bank-channel fee is not.
Why can I not cancel my Instant Money voucher?+
The voucher must still have its full value, you need the correct 4-digit collection PIN and you should use the channel that created it. If it is missing, partially used, blocked or showing the wrong status, call 0860 466 639.
Do Instant Money vouchers expire after 30 days?+
No. Standard Bank says Instant Money vouchers are valid for three years. There is no automatic 30-day refund; cancel an unwanted voucher or collect it yourself.
What if the voucher was already redeemed?+
A redeemed voucher cannot be cancelled through Manage vouchers. Ask the recipient to return the money. If it was fraud, call 0860 466 639 and Standard Bank’s fraud line on 0800 222 050, preserve the evidence and report it to SAPS.
