Watch the R10,000 tier on 7-day notice. At 4.00%, the smallest tier is materially worse than putting the same money in Capitec's Flexible Saver / Access Anytime (5.75% on R250k+) or African Bank Savings Pocket (5.5% from R1). The 7-day notice only becomes competitive at R25,000 and above.

How notice deposits work

With a notice deposit, you tell the bank in advance that you want to withdraw β€” the bank then releases the funds after the notice period has elapsed (7 or 32 business days at Capitec). Until you give notice, the funds sit earning the published rate.

The trade-off is rate for flexibility: a 32-day notice pays roughly 80–100 basis points more than the equivalent instant-access account, in exchange for a one-month delay if you need to withdraw. You only pay the "notice cost" when you actually want the money β€” until then, your rate is locked.

Capitec lets you make multiple notices on different portions of the balance. You can also top up at any time β€” each top-up has its own notice clock, but the existing balance is not affected.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Capitec 32-day notice account interest rate in 2026? +
Capitec's 32-day notice deposit pays 6.20% (R10,000) to 7.00% (R1m+) NACM as at 1 May 2026. The rate is tiered β€” small balances earn the bottom of the band; the top 7.00% applies only to R1m or more.
What is the difference between Capitec's 30-day and 32-day notice account? +
There is no separate "30-day" product at Capitec. South African banks generally use a 32-day notice period (the regulatory convention for the notice category). Searchers who type "30-day" almost always mean the 32-day account. Capitec's only personal notice products are 7-day and 32-day.
Does Capitec offer a 60-day or 90-day notice deposit? +
Not on the personal banking side as of May 2026. Capitec offers only 7-day and 32-day notice options for personal customers. For longer notice periods you can look at African Bank (90-day at up to 7.26%), Discovery Bank (60- and 90-day) or FNB.
Can I add to a Capitec notice deposit during the notice period? +
Yes β€” Capitec allows top-ups at any time. Each top-up has its own notice clock; existing funds are not affected. When you submit a withdrawal notice, only the funds you have specified are released N days later β€” the remaining balance continues to earn interest at the same rate.
What's the penalty for accessing money before the notice period? +
Capitec's early-access penalty is approximately 3% of the withdrawn amount, prorated against days to maturity, plus a base administration fee (most recently quoted at R287.50 incl. VAT). Confirm the exact penalty against the 2026 fees schedule before withdrawing.
Capitec 32-day notice vs Capitec Fixed Deposit β€” which is better? +
A fixed deposit pays more (Capitec FD tops at 7.60% vs 32-day notice at 7.00%) but locks capital for the full term. The 32-day notice lets you access funds 32 days after giving notice, every time, indefinitely. For uncertain timelines or money that might move within 6 months, the notice deposit is more flexible. For a known event 12+ months out, the fixed deposit pays more.
