Kaizer Chiefs Player Salaries 2026
Who reportedly earns what at Naturena. Chiefs doesn't publish player wages, so every figure here is a media or agent-leak estimate β useful as a ballpark, but treat them that way.
A note on the figures
Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, like every Premier Soccer League side, treats player contracts as confidential commercial information. The salary estimates below are aggregated from fan reporting, agent leaks and South African football media (Briefly, Soccer Laduma, KickOff). They should be read as ballpark figures β actual contract values may differ by 20β40% in either direction.

PSL salary context
PSL salary floor
A senior player must be paid at least R20,000 per month under SAFPU collective agreements.
Top-of-table benchmark
Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly pay their top stars R600,000βR1,000,000/month β Chiefs sit slightly below.
Foreign vs local
Foreign signings on club-funded work permits typically command 1.5β2Γ the equivalent local-player wage.
Bonuses
Win bonuses (R10kβR30k per league win), cup-final appearance fees and CAF competition bonuses are paid on top of the base.
Endorsements
Boot deals, social-media partnerships and brand ambassadorships can match or exceed the playing salary for the top 5 names.
What the headline figures don\'t show
- Β· PAYE eats a third or more. Top earners hit the 45% marginal bracket above R1.88m a year. A R480,000/month gross translates to roughly R290,000 net after tax.
- Β· Career length is short. The average PSL career runs 8β10 years. Two-thirds of players retire before age 35.
- Β· Few players save sensibly. Industry surveys consistently find more than half of ex-pros experience financial stress within five years of retirement. SAFPU and the PSL Players' Union run financial-literacy programmes specifically because of this.
- Β· Bonuses are volatile. Win bonuses depend on results, cup runs and CAF qualification. A bad season can mean a 30%+ pay cut.
- Β· Endorsement income is capped. Only the top 3β5 names at a club land Adidas, Nike or Puma boot deals. For everyone else, sponsorship income is negligible.
Financial advice for working footballers
Max out a retirement annuity
Footballers can deduct 27.5% of remuneration to a retirement fund (capped R350k/year). That's an immediate ~40% tax rebate for top earners and a forced-savings mechanism that survives a career end.
Use a TFSA every year
R36,000/year tax-free up to a R500,000 lifetime cap. For a player on R5m a year, this is small money β but missed years can't be claimed back.
Property: buy and hold, don't leverage
Many ex-pros are caught out by interest rate cycles on heavily-bonded properties. Cash-down or low-LTV purchases survive a career-ending injury; over-leveraged ones don't.
Get an FSCA-registered advisor β not a "friend"
The most common loss-of-career-savings story among ex-PSL pros is being persuaded into a "sure-thing" business by an old teammate or family friend. Verify any advisor's FSP number at fsca.co.za.
