GEPF Login & Self Service App Guide (2025)

By MoneyToday Team • Dec 07, 2024 • 5 min read

If you are a government employee, accessing your pension details used to mean long queues or endless phone calls. The GEPF (Government Employees Pension Fund) now offers a self-service web portal and mobile app.

In this guide, we walk you through the registration process, how to download the correct app, and how to access critical documents like your WP1002 (Proof of Pension).

Quick Access Links

How to Register (First Time)

Before you can log in, you must register. You will need your Pension Number (Z Number) handy.

  1. Go to the GEPF Self Service Site: Visit the official GEPF website and look for "Self Service Login" or "Member Login".
  2. Enter your Z-Number: This is your unique pension number starting with Z (e.g., Z894...). Do not include the Z when typing if the field asks for "Pension Number only", otherwise follow on-screen prompts.
  3. ID Number verification: You must enter your SA ID number matching the GEPF records.
  4. OTP Verification: A One-Time Pin will be sent to the cellphone number registered on the GEPF database.
Note: If your phone number has changed, you cannot register online. You must visit a GEPF branch or call 0800 117 669 to update your contact details first.
  5. Create Password: Choose a strong password. You can now use these credentials for both the website and the App.

What can you do on the App?

1. WP1002 (Proof of Pension)

Download your official proof of income letter. This is essential when applying for loans, accounts, or proving employment.

2. Tax Certificates (IRP5)

During tax season (July - Oct), download your IRP5 / IT3(a) directly to upload to SARS eFiling.

3. Update Beneficiaries

Ensure your "Nomination of Beneficiaries" (WP1002) is up to date so your family is protected if you pass away.

4. Resignation Calculator

Estimate your payout if you were to resign or retire today.

Common Login Errors

"User Locked"
This happens after 3 failed password attempts. You must use the "Forgot Password" link to reset it via OTP. Wait 15 minutes before trying again.
"System Offline"
The GEPF system often undergoes maintenance on weekends. If the app spins or says "Service Unavailable", try accessing the website via a desktop browser instead.
OTP Not Received
This is the most common issue. It means your number on file is old. You CANNOT update this online for security reasons. You must call the Call Centre.

Still Stuck?
